
Girl Power! is a 32-week program that will begin in the Summer and last throughout Fall 2008.
To be a qualified participant you must be a girl between the ages of 9-13 and a hurricane Katrina and/or Rita survivor.
Girl Power! encourages girls:
To build
self-confidence
Resist negative
peer pressure
Do well in school,
and become good citizens
Create a
cross-regional network of positive-thinking girls
This will be accomplished by:
Education and
building skills to help girls make healthy choices in their lives
Promote community
volunteerism with a focus on helping others
Alternative
activities to help girls learn healthy behaviors related to risk of poor social
and emotional health
Developing positive
leisure activity interests through service learning
Developing
effective, respectful communication with parents and other adults
Join Girl Power! We’re gonna have fun!
Activities include reading, music, art and etiquette training.
