Girl Power!  is a 32-week program that will begin in the Summer and last throughout Fall 2008.

To be a qualified participant you must be a girl between the ages of 9-13 and a hurricane Katrina and/or Rita survivor.

Girl Power! encourages girls:

*      To build self-confidence

*      Resist negative peer pressure

*      Do well in school, and become good citizens

*      Create a cross-regional network of positive-thinking girls

This will be accomplished by:

*      Education and building skills to help girls make healthy choices in their lives

*      Promote community volunteerism with a focus on helping others

*      Alternative activities to help girls learn healthy behaviors related to risk of poor social and emotional health

*      Developing positive leisure activity interests through service learning

*      Developing effective, respectful communication with parents and other adults

Join Girl Power! We’re gonna have fun!

Activities include reading, music, art and etiquette training.
