Mental Health and You

For some people, mental health means minding stress levels, and striking a healthy balance between work and home.  For those with mental health disorders, it may mean learning to manage and overcome their illnesses.

No matter who you are, mental health is something we all want for ourselves.

Mental health is determined by:

  • How you feel about yourself
  • How you feel about others
  • How you meet the demands of everyday life

One way of explaining mental health is to describe characteristics of a mentally healthy person.  There are many different degrees of mental health, and no one characteristic is indicative of good mental health.  In addition, the lack of any one positive characteristic does not signify a mental illness.  In fact, no one has all the traits of good mental health all the time.
